Construction unemployment rises

Summary
In a sign the nation’s construction industry continues to struggle, the construction unemployment rate rose to 11.9 percent in September, up from 11.3 percent in August, according to the Labor Department’s Oct. 5 employment report. However, the construction unemployment rate is down from 13.3 percent the same time last year.
The nonresidential building construction sector added 1,100 jobs for the month, but lost 12,400 jobs, or 1.9 percent, during the past year. September employment in the nonresidential sector stood at 654,900. Residential building construction sector employment increased by 1,100 jobs for the month and has added 3,200 jobs, or 0.6 percent, since September 2011.
